JogStats is another GPS-based fitness application for the Palm Pre. Like the previously-reviewed WorkOut tracker, this app tracks the time and distance you’ve covered while jogging, running, bicycling, or other similar activity. JogStats offers the ability to log your speed and altitude as well. Statistics will show your current speed, maximum and average speeds, and any altitude gains you’ve made in the course of your session. Your routes are visible on a map, but with no references against the real world, it’s just a line on a blank background.

You can go back and look at all your previous sessions sorted by date. JogStats presents your data in a graphical format, which can be very useful for longer sessions. You can also Tweet your data to friends and family – this can be particularly useful for those who like motivating themselves by making public commitments. The interface is friendly and easy-to-use, however the size of the text on the screen could be a little bigger. It can be a little difficult to see your current speed as you’re jogging and your Pre is shaking in your hands. On a similar vein, the contrast can be improved since a lot of users will be pulling up the app in sunlight. Overall, this is a good app that is slightly more specialized than WorkOut Tracker. The latter is slightly more feature-rich.
