OpenTable

OpenTable is a restaurant reservation and reviews application for the Palm Pre. It lets you make free reservations in thousands of restaurants across the country with immediate confirmation of your reservation. The app is location-aware, so you can see restaurants close to your current location as well as view their availability. Sorting options include price, cuisine and availability. The app can be extremely useful on traditionally busy nights, weekends, and holidays. The app stands head-and-shoulders above its similarly themed competitors because in addition to letting you actually make reservations from within the app, it also lets you see the menu and integrates very well with other WebOS functions.

Other features are similar to what GoodFood offers: user reviews, ratings, location-aware mapping, directions to the establishment from your current location, etc. The OpenTable app also lets you send a quick email from within the app with restaurant and reservation details. The app integrates well with your Pre calendar, so reservations can be scheduled appropriately with your other appointments. This is one of the more comprehensive and interactive Palm Pre Apps and will be useful for almost every Pre owner and, for now, makes other restaurant and food review apps redundant on your Palm Pre.

I think its important to note that OpenTable is not just a restaurant finding app. OpenTable is a company which sells reservation and floor arrangement software and terminals to restaurants, and provides them with the ability to take reservations online via the opentable website.

This app works with that website to view restaurants and make reservations at them – but it only allows you to do so at restaurants that use the opentable system.

I think this is a great app, but apps like GoodFood will retain their importance because they can search more broadly and are not limited to what is available in the opentable catalog.

I agree… Open table is very nice and well thought out on the design but you will continue to need GoodFood app.
