GolfPinFinder
We are now entering the realm of paid apps – GolfPinFinder is a demo version (for now) of a comprehensive golf distance finder and scoring application for the Palm Pre. It has a wealth of features which are all supported by a database of over 8000 golf courses searchable by name. The app will find courses close to your current location. You can also add your own courses to GolfPinFinder. It includes yardages and optional hints for each hole and lets you add five custom points per hole for each course. You can also tailor the clubs to your own style and calibrate how long you really managed to hit your clubs.

The multiplayer scorecard can be emailed and GolfPinFinder will automatically launch the email app on your smartphone with pre-filled fields. The interface is very well done with a lot of attention to detail. You can configure your club settings before each round and tell the app which of your clubs are available for play. The large number of features and excellent design makes this one of the best Palm Pre apps at present. If you’re an avid golfer, you will find this app invaluable and while the price is yet to be seen, there’s no doubt GolfPinFinder sets a new benchmark on your smartphone in terms of depth and breadth of features.

Will this app tell you the distance you hit for each shot? Can you input what club you use for each shot?
I have played with this a little. I don’t think you can enter what club you use for each shot nor does it tell you how far you hit. it tells you how far you are
from the hole. You can input distances that you hit for each club but when you close the app, it resets to default distances. I think it would be helpful if it would hold those settings. On the other hand, like I said, I haven’t used it a lot so maybe I am misusing it. Maybe the club distance settings ARE supposed to be for each hole but, I don’t think so. Some kind of instructions would be helpful. I think it would also be helpful if you could save the distances you usually hit with each club too.
How do you add a course. Can we send yall a score card or something?
This is agreat app, I bought it last year and used it quite a bit. As far as marking each shot, their is a button for your starting spot, then you hit it again once you reach your ball, and it will tell you how far the last shot went. Also, there is a club database where you manually input your ranges for each club, ie. 7 iron, min 140yards max 150yards etc. Then when your on the course you will then see a screen like the screen shot above telling you which club falls in that range at your current distance from the green, pretty nice.
Also, you add or edit a course at http://www.bbgpsgolf.com, I mapped all the ones local to me. It uses a google maps type plugin, and you just click the points on the arial map of the course for the tee box, front, middle, and back of green, and up to 4 other points per hole, ie. bunker, trees etc. The course is then available for download directly on the phone through the golfpinfinder app.
It will also keep track of your score, which you can then email to yourself, digital score card, way cool.
