CL USB Sync

The CL USB Sync app on the Palm Pre is a mixture of sync software and a tasks and memos application. The sync component does Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks+Memos but not email. The desktop component costs $39.95, while the Palm Pre app itself is free on the catalog. There is a free evaluation period for the desktop software. The desktop software is for Windows only, and does not support OS X or any flavors of Linux. The tasks and memos functionality is pretty good, with good support for a wide range of categories.

The interface is pretty clean and intuitive, and the sync process is quite straightforward. As the name implies, you’ll always have to connect your Pre and your computer with the USB cable for it to sync – no wireless sync, let alone automatic proximity sync. If for some reason Missing Sync isn’t working for you, this is a fallback option. But with no support for wireless sync, and the restriction to Windows environments, the app doesn’t offer anything compelling over Missing Sync for the Palm Pre.

does this allow backward compatability with Palm calendar, memo and contacts without first going through Outlook?

Do the people at palm actually want anyone to download the CL USB Sync app or do they just want to tease us with their computer prowess. That is, where is the link!? Do you expect me to look through 114 pages of links just to find this one! Give us end users a break.

Palm has already duped us into thinking that their Pre was superior to other smart phones because it had the capability to sync as the other devices do. It was the glimmer of hope that Palm would not become a dinosaur and fall into technological obscurity like vinyl records and pong. You might think about making your sync process a little easier so that people other than your engineers can use it!
