Absolute Fitness on the Palm Pre is a paid nutrition and fitness application for WebOS. It already exists on other platforms, including the iPhone and Android devices, where it has been quite popular. The app lets you track your nutrition, weight, and strength training goals. You can pull up macronutrient breakdowns for most dishes, and count your daily caloric intake. The app then lets you see statistics and aggregate data over different date ranges. Calories burned during various workout routines are also computed for you.

You can configure a profile and fitness goals and the app will prompt you and let you see how far you’ve progressed against your goals. Charting and graphing is excellent on this app, and a lot of the information is presented in a clear and easy-to-understand manner. The interface is easy-to-use and the app comes with the ability to export all your data if you wish to crunch numbers on your computer. Overall, this is an impressive health & fitness application and covers most basic needs in this domain.

JogStats is another GPS-based fitness application for the Palm Pre. Like the previously-reviewed WorkOut tracker, this app tracks the time and distance you’ve covered while jogging, running, bicycling, or other similar activity. JogStats offers the ability to log your speed and altitude as well. Statistics will show your current speed, maximum and average speeds, and any altitude gains you’ve made in the course of your session. Your routes are visible on a map, but with no references against the real world, it’s just a line on a blank background.

You can go back and look at all your previous sessions sorted by date. JogStats presents your data in a graphical format, which can be very useful for longer sessions. You can also Tweet your data to friends and family – this can be particularly useful for those who like motivating themselves by making public commitments. The interface is friendly and easy-to-use, however the size of the text on the screen could be a little bigger. It can be a little difficult to see your current speed as you’re jogging and your Pre is shaking in your hands. On a similar vein, the contrast can be improved since a lot of users will be pulling up the app in sunlight. Overall, this is a good app that is slightly more specialized than WorkOut Tracker. The latter is slightly more feature-rich.

WorkOut Tracker is a health and fitness application for the Palm Pre. This app allows you to track the time and distance for running, bicycling, and other similar activities. In addition, you can keep a log of your exercises, reps, sets, and variations every time you hit the gym. The app also has a database of exercises for each body part, and giving your Pre a shake when you’re in the right section will prompt the app to show you a new exercise for the relevant body part.

Of course, everything is logged and you can go back anytime and browse the history of exercises. The stopwatch can come in handy for any other reason outside of fitness as well, given that the Pre doesn’t yet have a dedicated one. With WorkOut Tracker you can email your logs to yourself and import them to your computer, offering a very nice backup. This is also useful if you want to see more advanced statistics and the progress you’ve made in the course of using this app. A very functional and useful app that any Palm Pre owner who is reasonably active will find useful.
